UPDATE
FROM LITTLE BEAR
for Baby William
February 15, 2002
Dear Friends and
Family,
Marilyn and I
are heading out for my weekend seminar in North Carolina and will not return until
Sunday evening. But I wanted to give you this update just before leaving for our
flight....
We saw baby William yesterday at about noon. His color looked good and his scar
tissue where he had heart surgery is healing remarkable well. It hardly looks
like he had surgery. The good news is that he was introduced to Noelle's milk
via a tube directly into his stomach. He seems to be taking this well, praise
the Lord. We thank you for prayers.
When we arrived, he had just received a temporary "reservoir" placed
in his head to drain off the excess fluid. Our desire and prayer is that this
will take the place of a possible permanent shunt. Please pray that the reservoir
will drain the necessary fluid properly without infections, and that as he matures,
the fluid to the brain will stop accumulating, and that a shunt will not be necessary.
Continue to pray for his internal organs to develop, especially his lungs, so
that he can soon come off the respirator.
While standing alongside his bed, he had his eyes wide open and I do believe he
was trying to look at Marilyn and me, and even lift his head. He was on his stomach.
It is amazing that even little things like the flexing of his tiny fingers on
our hands and the movement of the eyes means so much. He even gave us a big yawn.
I think it was when I was reading all his Bible verses I wrote out for him that
we keep at his bedside. He was probably trying to tell me, "Grandpa, I just
had surgery, and I am getting sleepy. So could you read the Bible to me a bit
later?" It was so cute. I read to him several Scripture verses every time
I come so that his little spirit man will be quickened. I have the belief that
the spirit of man--even in a baby--is fully grown, but trapped in the size and
age of the person. This is why at death the spirit leaves the body and it goes
to be with the Lord in a grown state. Of course, as a baby, by grace into heaven
or as a believer in Christ, washed by the blood.
So, I figure his spirit of life can receive the Word of God in the Spirit to his
spirit. I believe that I am building the spirit man in baby William. The Words
that I read are life-giving words primarily from the Book of Psalms at this time
in his life. Marilyn and I always leave him with prayer and give him words of
encouragement.
I am sure Marilyn will give you an update early this coming week, but for you
"cannot waiters" this will hopefully do.
In His Providential care,
"Little Bear" & family
